John Carlton reveals all

by Kevin

in Copywriting,Inspiration,Marketing

At 32, John Carlton was a floundering California slacker.

Couch surfing and living out of his car, John’s life was playing out like a standard blues riff, “I had no home, no job, my girlfriend had left me… I was essentially broke and destitute,” he says in the interview.

Down to his last few dollars and with no direction home,  he cracked open Napoleon Hill’s “Think and Grow Rich.”

The book he says introduced him to the startling discovery that, “Wait… I can actually want something, then make a plan to go achieve it… and then actually go achieve it?”

“It may sound trite,” he says, “but I’d never considered that before.”

For the first time John reveals the intimate details surrounding his life-altering epiphany — and subsequent chain of “fortunate” events — that ultimately lead him to the center podium of fame and achievement as a marketer and master copywriter.

You’ll hear what it was like to ghost for legends like Jay Abraham and Jim Rutz

… why he wanted to quit after his first day working with Gary Halbert

… and why the last thing he wants to be called is “brilliant.”

John’s passion these days is teaching. He’ll explain why he chose to reveal his private 17-step Simple Writing System formula for writing any piece of copy you can imagine…

… why it works especially well for video scripts and emails…

… and his selfish reasons for holding the Simple Writing System live mentoring sessions.

You’re going to love this interview.

This is John Carlton more candid and introspective than you’ve ever heard him before.

This is my 4th time teaching the SWS live mentoring session… I’ve been here since the beginning and I love it.

There’s nothing like seeing those copywriting light bulbs pop on for people (some who’ve had a deep fear of writing since getting their knuckles slapped by grammar Nazis back in grade school).

(As you can see from this post, sales writing is far from “proper.”)

The SWS makes sales writing a natural process for any biz own. This is as much a course about simple selling because that’s what the most persuasive sales messages are…

Best Teacher iPod Touch, fall '08

… a casual conversation between 2 adults on different sides of a problem.

If you can sell your product or service to the right prospect face-to-face… you CAN easily write killer ads. And the SWS makes the process foolproof and fun.

We have a blast in my classroom, the vibe is always positive and supportive. No flaming or forum bullies in the SWS.

And this session, to assure I spend all my class time teaching people who are after the biggest results, I’m limiting the number of students who can sign-up through my link to 10.

Join my SWS class!

Gates open at 2 pm EST on Thursday, April 1.

Clicking that link is the only way to guarantee you’ll get a spot in my room.

(However, you can enter here and request a different teacher if you like. They’re all accomplished copywriters and generous coaches… you can’t go wrong with any of ‘em.)

Here’s what one of last year’s students had to say:

“What a ride it has been. The SWS is the best I have ever done, hands down. It is so much more than a writing course, it is the foundation for everything in business.
A few month ago I never though I would be able to do something like this and yet going through the system is fun, mind boggling and challenging all at the same time. I even managed to submit my very first sales letter before class ended. Wohooo!!!
Thank you for being the # 1 teacher in SWS.” – NielsH

As John often says, “Every business owner needs to learn how to recognize a good ad from a bad ad.”

Whether you’re a time-crunched entrepreneur who wants to slam out your own emails instead of hiring out…

…or the freelance copywriter who wants to up his game and land better gigs…

… there just isn’t a better system available for achieving master-level skill this quickly and easily.

You get hard-core interactive teaching from John, myself and the support staff… plus you can spy on the other expert teachers by roaming into any classroom you like.

The learning is unlimited… and the networking is second-to-none. The Student Lounge is always one of the most popular threads with faculty and students mixing it up on all things marketing.

Many lasting friendships (and partnerships) have been sparked in the SWS Student Forum. It’s cool to be around like-minded people from all over the world — all achieving success and showing each other support.

As an added bonus for anyone signing up through my link, I’ll be hosting 4 free private teleconferences throughout the session where you can ask me anything you want regarding the SWS, freelancing, working with John — whatever’s on your mind.

Even though I’ll be there guiding you through the system 5 days a week in the student forums, these calls will give me a chance to provide that extra push in a live setting. Your success is my top priority.

Here’s my link again.

Great interview. Finger lickin’ good.

Officially the first online interview where I’ve
listened to everything without getting bored
and skipping parts.

Thanks to you both for sharing it.

PS- Now who do I have to start lobbying to get
a part 2?

Rezbi March 31, 2010 at 7:04 pm

Excellent interview. I love all the background about the great writers.

Kevin

I am doing my best to buy through your link but things have got complicated by my broadband issues and John’s early bird list.

I have been on John’s list for many years so my first clicks through were on his house list. Since then I have signed up on both PCs (if I can do it from home or have to get in the car and find my signal) but neither sign up took me to an autoresponder series which included the early bird list.

I am confused so it wouyld be great if you could get an early bird affiliate link out to your list.

Hope that makes sense because I’d like to get the extra bonuses John has planned if he repeats what he did last time.

Kevin April 1, 2010 at 10:31 am

Thanks, Dave. I’ll be working that for sure.

Kevin April 1, 2010 at 10:32 am

Thanks, Rezbi. Yeah, it was interesting to learn who humbles John Carlton as a writer.

Kevin April 1, 2010 at 10:38 am

Hey Paul,

I can’t reveal details of the offer, unfortunately. But I can tell you that if you click so long as you click my link at 2:00 EST today, you will receive any bonuses offered by John as well as my bonus calls during the session.

As far as cookies are concerned, it’s a “last cookie wins” scenario. So whichever link you enter with determines the outcome.

Hope that helps you. I look forward to having you in class if it works out.

Kevin
I have ordered, told Diane and Jay beforehand that you should get the affiliate commission and then sent them my receipt.

Computer problems and the time gap to the UK made life a bit awkward so when the early bird notification came in I grabbed it.

You should have been the only cookie on this little netbook I’ve been forced to use sitting in a car park.

Expect be to be a difficult but keen student.

Hey Kevin,

If anybody’s wondering if SWS and Kevin’s coaching works… then here’s the bottom line.

Last week, a sales letter I wrote for two big name internet marketers went live. It sent sales through the roof.

Their old sales letter pulled in just $500 from a list of over 100,000 subscribers.

But with my sales letter – written using what I learned in SWS and from Kevin – their sales rocketed to close to $120,000… in just a few days.

Are they happy? You betcha. In fact, they’ve recommended me to one of the world’s top infomercial marketers.

That’s the power of joining SWS and getting Kevin as your coach.

It doesn’t matter if you only want to write for your own biz… or start a new life as a freelance copywriter… SWS works!

Kevin,

I’m interested in purchasing the SWS system, but I was wondering if this system is for complete newbies.

I don’t desire to be a professional copywriter, I just want to write GREAT copy for my health and fitness blog. I’m a horrible writer and need lots of help.

Toni

Kevin April 1, 2010 at 1:02 pm

Hi Toni,

Yes! Most SWS students are complete newbies.

We’ve trained the most apprehensive writers you can imagine into sales writing machines. And they have a LOT of fun doing it.

Honestly, you’d have more trouble with this course if you were a college English major. Copywriting is about sincere, direct communication with your prospect — not proper grammar and punctuation (as you can see from my writing :) )

Hope to see you in class,

Kevin

Kevin April 1, 2010 at 1:03 pm

Colin,

You’re too kind. I appreciate your comment and I’m SO happy for your success.

Really, you deserve it all and more, friend.

Kevin,

I purchased from your link. I hope this is the best investment I’ll make in 2010!

Kevin April 1, 2010 at 2:27 pm

Thanks, Toni. You’ll see, it’s an investment that will reward you for life.

See you on the 12th.

Jim Judy April 1, 2010 at 2:58 pm

Hi Kevin,

I’m interested in signing up, but am curious how much actual one-on-one interaction occurs between coaches and students. How many students will be in your class and — roughly — how much time do you directly communicate with them? My site clearly needs work (and is getting a face lift redesign soon — now 2 months late in delivery) but I need direct advice rather than just exercises and theory. Thanks.

Kevin April 1, 2010 at 3:11 pm

Hi Jim,

Thanks for asking. People who sign up for the SWS are typical the most surprised at the intense level of personal attention they get from their coaches and John himself.

I respond to every student post Mon – Fri, and sometimes on weekends as well. So you can count on daily feedback every weekday. You watch the video, do the exercise, then post it up. I then post my critique. If you nailed it we move on, if you need guidance I give it to you.

It’s an excellent system that way because you also get to see what the other students are doing. Not only in my class, but every other class as well.

What’s more, this session I’ll be holding 4 teleconference calls with students just lend a more personal aspect to the coaching. I’m inspired to do this because I’ve met a handful of my SWS students in person over the last year and it’s really cool. We form a real bond in the SWS that translates surprising well to the real world.

Give it a shot, Jim. You’re covered by John’s money back guarantee if it’s not what you expected. However, I’m 100% confident it will exceed your expectations. It always does.

Hope to see you there.

Kevin

Jim Judy April 1, 2010 at 3:30 pm

Thanks Kevin — Just signed up using your link for the purchase.

Kevin April 1, 2010 at 3:41 pm

Great, Jim. Looking forward to it.

See you on the 12th!

Kevin April 1, 2010 at 6:36 pm

Perfect, Paul! I love a challenge. See you there.

Mohamed April 2, 2010 at 2:34 pm

Hey Kevin,

Just snagged one of the two last spots in your course.

FYI – I read through John’s sales letter and was very interested, but remained on-the-fence. What pushed me over, believe it or not, was your post on the Warrior forum. A college buddy once told me “don’t take the class, take the teacher” – a bit hyperbolic perhaps, but there is a key kernel of truth there. Your post and credentializing convinced me that you would be (and are) a fantastic instructor, so…

I’m in.

Looking forward to a fun and educational journey.

Best wishes,
Mohamed

Kevin April 2, 2010 at 2:41 pm

Mohamed, I’m flattered beyond words. And I think your friend has an excellent philosophy.

Thanks for your trust. I won’t let you down.

Am I the only one who doesn’t see any play button near where it says “push play to listen now” ? – cause I’d sure love to hear this interview !
Eric

Kevin April 5, 2010 at 12:32 am

Hi Eric,

If you’re browsing in firefox check your settings…. another reader had the same issue and found he had something disabled. Sorry I don’t have better instructions for you. I sure want you to hear it, too. It’s really excellent.

Kevin April 5, 2010 at 6:53 am

Hey Everyone,

Congratulations to Tim who grabbed the final seat in my SWS 7 class beginning on April 12th.

I’m looking forward to meeting you and all my the new members next Monday. You will receive your videos and workbook in the mail shortly.

The course is designed for you to move at your own pace but, if possible, plan to sprint our of the gates early.

The system favors action and I want to give you the most coaching I can for the full 8 weeks we’re together.

Buckle up for a wild and productive ride.

Kevin
